Gary V’s best advice

Anyone who is generally familiar with online influencers knows who Gary V is.

He is most known for his motivational rants and viral content online, but I am not sure many understand he has been at the forefront of social and video since its inception in the early 2000’s.

He took his parents wine business from 4 million to 60 million by incorporating video, email, and social.  He was an early believer and more importantly investor in Instagram, facebook, and Twitter.

So he isn’t just a guy who can talk, he has been “doing” for many years now and what we see now publicly is his voice and articulation of the times we are living in and opportunity before us.

I’m always checking out some of his latest speeches and interviews, because there is a ton of truth is his direct and brutally honest delivery that connects with me.

In one of his latest key notes in Orlando, FL one of his messages resonates with me more than any of his talks to date.

“Stop making decisions on things in your life predicated on what other people think”

He goes on to tell the audience that one of the biggest reasons to his success is that he doesn’t give a shit about someone else’s opinion of him or what he’s doing.

He explained that as humans we all have a certain amount (as he explained in %) of energy that is put towards what others think such as family, etc but the idea being that we should take that way down on the spectrum of things.

He offered up being at 10% with 90% of our energy being our own unique thoughts, drive, and execution of our ideas.

I couldn’t agree with this more, and always challenging myself to replace any dependent thoughts with independent thoughts that drive action.

As I have grown past my twenties and chase more independent and entrepreneurial projects this needs to hold true more than anything.

Gary said “it gets real quiet up there” (pointing to his head) when you don’t give a damn about what other people are saying.

The video below is the entire speech.
